Home Comfort Inspections is a Lower Mainland based energy consulting company that provides energy solutions for homeowners. Their core business is delivering the EnerGuide for Houses program and qualifying homeowners for energy grants. The owner of Home Comfort Inspections, Garry Lowney, became an Energy Advisor in 1995. He has completed over 4000 energy audits on new and existing houses as a HomePerformance Energy Advisor for the EnerGuide for Houses program, and over 4000 additional inspections for programs such as BC 21 PowerSmart, Terasen Gas Homeworks and BC Hydro PowerSmart Home Improvements. Garry has trained Energy Advisors for all programs listed above and also provides contract quality assurance work for Building Insight Technologies.
What makes us different is our high level of professionalism and customer service. At Home Comfort Inspections we want to ensure every client receives the best EnerGuide for Houses service in Canada. Other EGH providers send a data collector to your house to take measurements and collect info on your home. They then send that info to a 3rd party who enters the information into a computer software package. The 3rd party prepares the EnerGuide report and mails the generic report to the client weeks down the road. Not the best service in my experience.
Home Comfort Inspections expert advisors are different. We use unique software that allows us to inspect your home and prepare you a customized report all in a single visit. We help the homeowner understand where their house looses energy and why. From there our custom report will actually tell you how much your heating costs will be reduced for each improvement you are considering. Most homeowners don’t know where to put the improvement dollars. Do they replace the windows? Do they replace the furnace? Do they insulate the foundation? Should they reduce air leakage? Is the house too tight already? At Home Comfort Inspections we can answer all these questions for you. Heck we can even tell what size furnace you need for your home. Every house is different.
The first step is booking your EnerGuide for Houses evaluation to see where you stand. Once you have the straight goods you can make your improvements with piece of mind. After your improvements are completed, Home Comfort Inspections returns to the house to retest. We then submit your grant application to NRCan on your behalf. The grant is based on the difference between your first EGH rating (before improvements) compared to the second EGH rating (after improvements). In a nut shell the more energy you save heating your house after improvements the larger your grant can become.
Grants range in value from about $100 to about $5000. The average grant is usually between $500 to $2000.
Also… homeowner that have an EnerGuide for Houses evaluation performed are eligible for low interest financing at prime, plus if the homeowner has CMHC mortgage insurance they are eligible for a 10% discount on the insurance premiums. Also… if a homeowner has an EGH evaluation and plans on replacing windows, BC Hydro offers an additional incentive (rebate) for E-Star rated windows.
The EnerGuide program is Canada wide. Part of Canada’s One Tonne Challenge to further climate change goals by reducing green house gas emissions from our housing sector.
Homeowners purchase this service with three primary goals in mind: - to reduce heating costs - to improve comfort - to receive unbiased expert advice about energy efficiency retrofits as part of the retrofit planning process.
The grant is the gravy.
Have a great day!
