The right slot. Receptacles are usually identified by their slot pattern. Two-slot receptacles, found in older houses, are ungrounded; three-slot models (two slots and the U-shaped ground) incorporate a grounding slot that connects them to a continuous grounding system in the household wiring; T-slot receptacles have a 20-amp capacity for use in appliance circuits.
